Susan Smith
Susan Smith has been a long time contributor to the musical life of Colorado Springs since 1971. She is a member of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic (formerly the Colorado Springs Symphony), and for more than thirty years served as Principal Cellist. She was a charter member of the Colorado Opera Festival orchestra as principal cellist except its first year. She was a long time member of the Colorado Springs Symphony Piano Trio and the Colorado College Trio. Other chamber music experience includes the Lanner concert series at CC, Haus Musik and Soundscapes (a contemporary music ensemble). Susan maintains a class of private cello students , some of whom have attended fine conservatories including Eastman, Oberlin, and the Cleveland Institute.
A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Susan attended the Aspen Music Festival for five summers, where she studied with Lynn Harrill, Alan Harris and Ronald Leonard (her Eastman teacher). For another five summers she also performed with the Colorado Music Festival orchestra in Boulder. She is delighted to make her debut with Classically Alive.
