Nathan Newbrough, President and CEO
President and CEO Nathan Newbrough is a rising star in the world of arts leadership. In 2001, at the age of 27, Mr. Newbrough was picked to lead the Orchestra of the Finger Lakes; his success in that position led to recruitment by the Amarillo Symphony to fill their executive director position in 2004. While in Amarillo, Newbrough helped to open a new concert hall and had four consecutive sold-out concert seasons.
In 2008 Mr. Newbrough was selected to become President and CEO of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. Since his arrival the Organization has thrived; the Philharmonic is the only professional orchestra in the state of Colorado that has not cut programming during the recession. In fact, during Newbrough’s tenure, season tickets sales have more than doubled and subscription revenue has increased by 136%.
Josep Caballé-Domenech, Music Director
Newly appointed Music Director of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, 37-year-old Spanish conductor Josep Caballé-Domenech is consistently cited for his passion and insightful interpretations. Eliciting a beautiful and lush sound from the orchestra, his performances have been hailed throughout Europe, Scandinavia and Japan.
Born in Barcelona to a family of musicians, Josep Caballé-Domenech’s early studies included piano, violin, voice, and percussion. He later studied conducting at the University of Music and Scenic Arts in Vienna and at the American Academy of Conducting in Aspen with David Zinman, Jorma Panula, and Sergiu Comissiona where he was also awarded the Aspen Prize.
As an active guest conductor, Mr. Caballé-Domenech’s engagements include the Royal Philharmonic in London, Belgian National Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, Houston Symphony, and New Japan Philharmonic.
Thomas Wilson, Associate Conductor
Associate Conductor, Thomas Wilson has been called “someone to watch” and “a very exciting conductor” by Michael Tilson Thomas, one of the foremost conductors of our time.
Thomas began studying piano at the age of four. Later instrumental studies included trumpet, percussion, string bass and voice, before concentrating his efforts on trumpet, conducting and composition. Thomas graduated summa cum laude from the University of Northern Colorado, receiving the School of Music’s highest honor — the Departmental Scholar Award — and has pursued additional studies with many of the leading conductors of our time.
A primary focus of Mr. Wilson’s conducting career has been collaborations between performing arts organizations, which he views as essential to artistic growth and a unified arts community. Thomas’ recent recording projects include the world premier recording of Kevin McChesney’s Ring of Fire, and a live 2-CD release of the Flying W Wranglers with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.
