Mozart & Friends I
A MOZART DIVERSION AND BACH'S AIR ON
THE G-STRING
NEW DAYS & DATES:
Lawrence Leighton Smith, Conductor
Bach: Suite For Orchestra No. 3
Haydn: Symphony No. 30 “Allelujah”
Mozart: Divertimento (No. 11) K.251
Prokofiev: Classical Symphony
Bach’s Suite For Orchestra No. 3 is a Baroque suite, tuneful, with toe-tapping qualities that are difficult to resist and the Third Suite has the famous "Air on the G-string," where the violins play a glorious, slow melody, all bowed on their lowest and richest-sounding string.
The melody in Haydn's Symphony No. 30 in C major, " Allelujah " is transformed by Haydn into a lively celebration.
Wofgang Amadeus Mozart’s Divertimento (No. 11) K. 251 is light-hearted and serenely beautiful.
Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony marries the formal clarity and structure of the classical symphony with the harmonies and rhythms of the twentieth century.
