You are invited to a very special evening as your Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra presents Sergei Eisenstein’s great 1925 film masterpiece, fully remastered, and projected on a giant screen above the live orchestra. The orchestra performs Dmitri Shostakovich's powerful score under the baton of Music Director Lawrence Leighton Smith.
The Soviet film documents the historic mutiny of sailors in the Czar's navy in 1905 and has served as a testament against oppression ever since. Shostakovich based his Eleventh Symphony on the same events as those in the film. A truly unique experience for music lovers, film enthusiasts, students of history, and anyone wanting an exhilarating evening of film and music.
“Being a musician and acquainted with the symphonies of Shostakovich but not that acquainted with the work of Eisenstein the film director, I found myself astonished at the perfect marriage of sound and film. It is
overwhelming– as you will experience.”
--Music Director Lawrence Leighton Smith
