Lawrence Leighton Smith

Music Director  [full bio]
One of the most respected American musicians of his generation, Lawrence Leighton Smith was music director of the Louisville Orchestra from 1982 to 1993, principal guest conductor of the New Jersey Symphony from 1997-2000, and music director of the Sun River Music Festival since 1995.  A pianist and composer, Smith is the recipient of three honorary doctorates, many awards for adventurous programming, and is widely regarded as an expert in the field of twentieth century repertoire.  Smith holds a teaching post at Yale University and appears frequently as guest conductor with orchestras throughout the U.S.


Thomas Wilson

Associate Conductor  [full bio]
A lifelong musician, Thomas Wilson is currently music director of the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs and also serves as cover conductor for the New York-based pops show “A Symphonic Night at the Oscars.”  Wilson has received international acclaim as a trumpeter, teaches actively at Colorado College, and is a frequent composer and arranger of works performed in Colorado Springs.  A big believer in collaborations between performing arts organizations, Wilson has worked to create a more unified arts community.
